How to edit a MIDI file online

Open a .mid file in this MIDI editor online, or start from a blank piano roll. Draw new notes, drag them to change pitch or timing, stretch them to change length, and delete what you don’t need. Quantize to tighten timing, transpose if needed, then export a .mid or WAV. It all runs in your browser.

  1. 第 1 步

Open a file or start fresh

Drop a .mid or .midi file onto the editor, or start with an empty piano roll. Your file opens in the browser and is never uploaded.

  2. 第 2 步

    Edit in the piano roll

Draw notes with the pencil, drag them to move, pull a note’s edge to change its length, and delete mistakes. Quantize and transpose, and undo anything you don’t like.

  3. 第 3 步

    Export

Download a standard .mid for your DAW or notation app, or render a WAV to share or drop into a project.

C你能得到什么

What you get

  • F.01

    Piano-roll editing

A piano roll online, with nothing to install. Draw, select, move, stretch and delete notes on a grid. Pitch runs up the side on a piano keyboard; time runs left to right.

  • F.02

    Quantize

Snap notes to the beat grid to tighten a sloppy take, while keeping the pitches you played.

  • F.03

    Transpose

Shift notes up or down by semitones to put a song in a singer’s range or a friendlier key.

  • F.04

    A MIDI maker, too

Start from a blank piano roll and sketch a melody, bass line or chord progression. Edits can be undone, so a wrong drag costs nothing.

  • F.05

    Export .mid or WAV

Save a standard MIDI file that opens in any DAW or notation app, or render a WAV with a sampled grand piano or the built-in synth.

  • F.06

    Private and free

No upload, no sign-up, no ads. The editor runs entirely on your device.

D谁在用

Who uses an online MIDI editor

  • Producers away from the studio

Fix a wrong note or a late hit on a laptop that doesn’t have your DAW installed, then send the corrected .mid back.

  • Transcription users

Clean up MIDI from MP3 to MIDI or Voice to MIDI: delete ghost notes, fix octave jumps and quantize before you export.

  • Students and teachers

Sketch an exercise, a bass line or a chord progression and hear it back. A piano roll makes intervals and rhythm visible.

  • Game and app developers

Tweak a MIDI loop or jingle without installing a DAW, then export the .mid or a WAV for your build.

E准确度与限制

What it handles well, and what it doesn’t

The editor changes only what you change. Notes you don’t touch keep their pitch, timing and velocity when you export. The limits are about scope: this is a focused note editor, not a full DAW, so controller data and some details of complex MIDI files may be simplified on export.

实测准确率:上线时公布。我们怎么测 →
素材效果预期表现
Notes: pitch, timing and length良好Exported as you see them in the piano roll.
Quantize on straight rhythms良好Tightens eighth- and 16th-note parts cleanly. Check fast runs afterward.
Triplets and swing一般A straight grid flattens triplet feel. Quantize swung sections carefully, or leave them as played.
Sustain pedal, pitch bend and modulation一般Not editable here, and may be simplified on export.
Complex tempo maps一般Files with many tempo changes may be simplified on export. Check the tempo in your DAW.
WAV export sound良好Rendered with a sampled grand piano or the built-in synth, not the original instruments.
F技巧

Tips for faster, cleaner edits

Habits that save time in any piano roll, this one included.

  1. Fix pitches before timing. Wrong notes stand out more than slightly late ones.
  2. Delete stray notes before you quantize, so ghost notes don’t snap onto the grid and start to sound intentional.
  3. Zoom in for timing edits and out for structure. Small moves are easier to judge up close.
  4. Listen in context. Play the bar before and after a change, not just the note you moved.
  5. Watch for octave errors in transcribed MIDI. A note an octave too high or too low is a common detection mistake; drag it back.
  6. Export a .mid often. Browser storage can be cleared, and a downloaded file is your safe copy.
  7. Transpose last. Fix the notes in the original key, then move everything at once.

I详解

How a piano roll maps to MIDI

The piano roll is the most direct view of a MIDI file. Each block is one note. Its vertical position is the pitch, read from the keyboard on the left; its left edge is when the key goes down; its length is how long the key is held. Behind it, the file stores a note-on and a note-off event, each with a pitch number from 0 to 127.

Velocity, from 1 to 127, records how hard the key was struck, and most sounds get louder and brighter as it rises. Timing is stored in ticks, fractions of a quarter note, and converted to seconds using the file’s tempo. That’s why moving a note changes when it plays, while changing the tempo moves every note together.

That split, notes in beats and tempo kept separately, explains most MIDI behavior. A part recorded without a click has notes floating between grid lines, because the performance never followed the grid in the first place.

Quantizing without killing the groove

Quantize snaps note starts to the nearest grid line. It’s the fastest way to tighten a sloppy take, and it’s essential before you turn MIDI into sheet music. It also removes the small pushes and drags that make a part feel human.

Pick the grid from the music, not from habit. A part built on 16th notes needs a 16th grid; quantize it to eighths and fast notes get dragged onto the wrong beat. Swing and shuffle parts sit on triplets, so a straight grid will flatten them. When in doubt, quantize a few bars, listen, and undo if it sounds stiff.

Quantize the parts that define the time, like drums and bass, more strictly than melodies and pads. And always delete ghost notes first: a stray blip snapped to the grid becomes a real, audible note.

Cleaning up transcribed MIDI

MIDI made from audio, whether by MP3 to MIDI, WAV to MIDI or Voice to MIDI, always benefits from a pass in an editor. Transcription makes predictable mistakes, and they’re quick to fix once you know what to look for.

Look for octave errors, where a note is detected an octave above or below where it was played, usually because of strong overtones. Look for ghost notes: very short, quiet notes from reverb, string noise or breath. Look for split notes, where one long sung or bowed note is broken into several short ones. And look for missing notes in dense chords, where quiet inner voices hide under louder ones.

Work in that order: delete ghosts, fix octaves, join split notes by stretching one and deleting the rest, add missing notes, then quantize. Export a .mid when you’re done, and the cleaned file is ready for a DAW, a notation app or MIDI to Sheet Music.

Yes. Open any .mid file in the editor above and draw, move, resize or delete notes, quantize, transpose and undo, then export a .mid or WAV. It’s free, with no sign-up and no ads, and it runs in your browser, so your file is never uploaded to a server. You can also start from a blank piano roll and build a part from scratch.

Yes. Start from a blank piano roll and draw notes with the pencil tool to create MIDI online: a melody, a bass line or a chord progression. Play it back, quantize and transpose it, then export a .mid for your DAW or a WAV to share. It works as a free MIDI maker, with no sign-up and nothing to install.

Choose a grid size and apply Quantize to the notes you want to tighten. Each note start moves to the nearest grid line, so a slightly early or late note lands on the beat. Pick the grid from the smallest regular note in the part: 16ths for busy parts, eighths for simpler ones. Listen afterward, and undo if the part loses its feel.

Not in the editor itself. Preview playback and WAV export use a sampled grand piano or the built-in synth for every track. To hear a part on strings, guitar or drums, export the .mid and load it in a DAW or notation app, where you can assign any instrument to each track. The notes you edited carry over unchanged.

Not yet. Today you add notes by drawing them in the piano roll. To capture a performance, record it in your DAW or a keyboard app, export a .mid, and open it here to edit. You can also hum or sing an idea into Voice to MIDI and open the result in the editor. Live keyboard input in browsers relies on Web MIDI, which Safari doesn’t support.

WAV, yes: render your edit with a sampled grand piano or the built-in synth and download it straight from the editor. For MP3, export the .mid and open it in MIDI to MP3, which renders the same sounds at 128, 192 or 320 kbps. Both run in your browser and both are free, with no watermark.

The main ones are B for the pencil tool, V for the select tool, Q to quantize, Delete or Backspace to remove selected notes, Space to play or pause, and Ctrl+Z, or ⌘Z on a Mac, to undo. The editor shows its shortcut legend as keycaps next to the piano roll, so you don’t need to memorize them.

Export a .mid before you close the tab to be safe. Your edits live in your browser on this device, not on our servers, so there’s no cloud copy to come back to. Browser storage can be cleared at any time, and private windows forget everything when they close, so a downloaded .mid is your reliable backup.
